Feeling Welcome on Sunday Mornings
From Angie Rettmann, Executive Pastor & Guest Services Coordinator
Hebrews 13:1-2. “Let love of the brethren continue. Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by this some have entertained angels without knowing it.” I love the mystery in these verses. Can you imagine encountering angels without knowing it? Perhaps you can. Perhaps there have been moments in your life that left you wondering.
I like to think of each Sunday as a party. A party with my favorite people who all show up willingly to celebrate and be together. When I throw a party I like to plan ahead and anticipate my guests by preparing for the logistics of our time together but also for the possible surprises and unplanned opportunities that delight and make memories.
Each Sunday our Guest Services team shows up early to “set the table” if you will. The way I see it, we have this incredible opportunity to pave the way for individuals who need to hear the Word of God and be encouraged in community. People are literally showing up on our “doorstep” and all we have to do is anticipate them and make them feel welcome!
We’ve got 3 coffee guys who, on their scheduled Sunday, come at 7:30 am to brew the coffee. We’ve got a bunch of greeters who bring their best smiles and handshakes to face-forward with warmth and invitation. We’ve got ushers who thoughtfully read body language and anticipate the need to find a chair. We even have coffee hosts who pour and cap coffee for individuals with their hands full or who just look like they need a short connection while grabbing coffee.
If you’re the type who enjoys the possibility of entertaining angels you might want to reach out and join the team. I mean you never really know, do you?
See you Sunday~
