Dear Willamette Family,

As we approach this election season, I want to invite you to join me in a deliberate and prayerful pursuit of God. In a time when the world feels divided and tensions run high, we are called to stand firm in our allegiance to Jesus Christ, the King of Kings.

The words of 2 Chronicles 7:14 remind us of the power and promise of prayer:

“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and heal their land.”

In these next 40 days of prayer and fasting, we seek to humble ourselves before the Lord, asking Him to align our hearts with His kingdom purposes. It is through this posture of humility and dependence that we trust God will bring about renewal within our lives, deepen unity and maturity in our church family, and ignite healing and revival in our community and nation.

Let’s come together with expectant hearts, ready to receive what God has in store for us as we walk through this season united in prayer and faith.

Striving for Unity

Scripture: Psalm 133

Prayer Focus: Pray for unity in your family, church, and community. Ask God to heal divisions and bring people together.

Fasting

As we journey through these 40 days of prayer and fasting, fasting can serve as a powerful tool to deepen your connection with God and sharpen your spiritual focus. Whether it’s abstaining from specific foods, stepping back from distractions, or creating intentional spaces for reflection, fasting allows you to realign your heart with God’s purposes. The goal is to create more room in your life for prayer, worship, and listening to God’s voice, ultimately leading to a deeper relationship with Him.

Examples:

• Abstain from Meals: Choose specific meals to skip, using the time instead to pray and seek God’s guidance.

• Give Up Sweets or Indulgent Foods: Let go of desserts or favorite snacks as a reminder to find sweetness in God’s Word and presence.

• Fast from Entertainment: Take a break from social media, TV, or other forms of entertainment to focus more on prayer and scripture.

• Reduce Non-Essential Activities: Set aside activities that aren’t essential, dedicating that time to deepen your relationship with God.

• Step Out of Comfort Zones: Challenge yourself to step beyond familiar routines, trusting God to lead you into new areas of growth and service.

• Serve Others: Use the time you would spend on meals or leisure to serve others in your community, reflecting Christ’s love in action.
