Equipping young adults who desire to discover and develop their potential in ministry and the workplace.

About the Summer Intensive

We believe we are called to grow impact by investing in the next generation, using our expertise and experience to help shape the future. Currently, we have campuses in 3 locations around the Portland/Metro area: Hope City Church in SE Portland (HCC), Willamette Christian Church in West Linn (WCC), and Beaverton Christian Church in Beaverton (BCC). The Summer Intensive is inclusive of all our campuses, however you will be assigned to spend 90% of your time working with a team in one of our locations.

Summer Intensive at WCC/BCC/HCC is a deep dive into church ministry, culture, business, and operations. The church is a family organized and on mission to do Kingdom work at home and around the world. Locally and internationally we preach the gospel and help people take next steps in embracing Jesus as their Lord and Savior and growing in their understanding of living daily life with Him. We have developed best practices in a wide variety of areas beneficial to both those called into full-time ministry as well as those pursuing work in the private sector.

What You’ll Receive

Ministry, Business, and/or Cultural Experience

Our Summer Intensive is designed to give you a deep dive into a particular area of interest. You will be supervised by a lead in your area of interest where you will be coached and developed as you engage with a Summer Intensive key project. This key project will be discussed and agreed upon between you and your supervisor during the first week of the internship

Personal Development

You will also participate within a cohort of summer interns where you will gather weekly for leadership discussion and development with the Summer Intensive Lead. Here you will tackle heart issues in light of the scriptures by reading and discussing Enemies of the Heart by Andy Stanley.

Access to Senior Leadership

Two Lunch and Learns will be hosted during the Summer Intensive that will provide opportunity to learn from our Executive Pastoral Leadership. Each Lunch and Learn will include a leadership development teaching and a Q and A session.

I felt that I was really able to expand my leadership skills as one who is in charge of a class of children too. Another way I felt that it helped shape me for a future vocation, is learning the unseen side of working a Sunday morning ministry. I was able to see the work week norms of packing materials and preparing curriculum before it was used one a Sunday morning.

-Madison Steele, former Hope City Kids intern

Madison is currently finishing her junior year at Corban University in Elementary Education.

Working in a ministry filled with intentionality, encouragement, grace and love taught me that those things are necessary for working in ministry, it’s about more than the work you do, but the heart you have and the relationship with those around you

-Alex Wienecke

Alex is currently working as a kindergarten aide and substitute teacher at San Francisco City Academy and a children’s advocate in Children’s Ministry at San Francisco City Impact

Make the most of it! Also try and be bold and explore more than those just in your department. Meeting and working with other departments is a great way to step out of your comfort zone!

-Teagan Cameron

Teagan is currently serving as our Production Designer, a Central Services role serving all 3 of our campuses

During my internship I discovered my love for ministry in a behind-the-scenes way. I learned principles like responding to emails in a timely manner, how to conduct myself in meetings, how to have crucial conversations, and how to organize myself outside of an academic setting

-Rachael Wilson

Rachael is currently on staff at Willamette serving as Assistant to the Campus Pastor

Come in humble and open to whatever you may be needed for… by being open to whatever my department lead and fellow staff members needed, I was able to learn from all different types of people with very different roles in the church.

-Devon Berney

Devon is currently pursuing a business degree at Portland State University

My internship was helpful in creating a good work ethic and teamwork skills

-Keely Burmeister

Keeley is currently serving as the Communications Coordinator for WCC/BCC/HCC

The biggest thing [you] can learn from this summer is the importance of faithfulness.

-Dayne Scanlon

Dayne is currently serving as the Middle School Pastor at Willamette

Working with the kids ministry sparked a deeper connection to wanting to do therapy but for family and marriages specifically. I believe my most valuable take away from the summer internship was having a community come around me willing to sit and pray with me through rough times.

-Kayla Villa

Kayla is currently on mission working at Home Depot
