FOOD GATHERING
WHAT YOU DO: Use play food and a bucket or laundry basket to have your children play a game of food gathering! Place the food toys at one end of a hallway or room and the bucket at the other. Encourage them to collect one piece at a time and bring it back to the bucket. Tell them that in today's story, we saw that lots of people had to follow a road because they were hungry and needed to get to food. God had a good plan to help them!
MEMORY MATCH
WHAT YOU DO: Print two copies of the attached story cards. Place them facedown on a table and have your children play a memory match game with them by turning over two cards at a time and trying to find a match. When they do, see if they can tell you what is happening in the picture from today's story.
Oh, Peter!
Have you ever said something, and it hurt someone’s feelings? That’s exactly what Peter did in our Bible story this week. He messed up over and over again and ended up hurting one of his best friends, Jesus. The cool part of the story, though, is that Jesus showed us exactly how a friend should respond. He went and found Peter and forgaveHim. What would you have done if you were Jesus? Can you think of a time when someone forgave you when you did something that hurt them? Check out the next page and see how many times you can find the phrase FRIENDS FORGIVE.
Know that Jesus showed us how to forgive, even when we are hurt.
Share and Tell
Forgiveness isn’t easy. In fact, it’s pretty hard sometimes. But thankfully Jesus gave us a great example of forgiveness—both with His friendship with Peter, and with us! Is there someone you need to forgive right now? If so, use this prayer (or use your own words) to ask God for help.
Dear God, thank You for the gift of friendship, and for the example we see from Jesus of how friends forgive. Right now, I’m pretty upset with __________ because ________. But I care about our friendship, and I want to make things right. Please help me forgive _______. Help me to choose our friendship over being right. Thanks, God! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
If your friendships are in a good place right now and you don’t have anyone you feel you need to forgive right now, then pray this prayer.
Dear God, thank You for the gift of friendship, and for the example we see from Jesus of how friends forgive. I am really thankful for all of my friends. Help me to always remember that You have forgiven me. Help me to always choose friendship over being right. Thanks, God! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
